Le Balcon ventures into the repertoire of acousmatic music with two performances dedicated to Pierre Henry and his work Dracula. The production presents a free adaptation by computer and musical director Augustin Muller and composer Othman Louati. At Radio France, the ensemble installed its ‘orchestra of loudspeakers’, creating a total spectacle where acoustic instruments play alongside magnetic tapes. Rather than a literal orchestral transcription or a string reduction, Le Balcon chose an arrangement for wind band, augmented by piano and double bass. This acoustic extension adds a heterogeneous layer of timbres to the post‑romantic palette of the original recording. Adopting a setup inspired by Varèse’s Déserts, the project forges bridges between Henry’s and Varèse’s sonic worlds. Le Balcon inscribes its Dracula within a specific practice of mixed music, uniting live instruments and electronics.
