A revival of Henri Christiné and Albert Willemetz’s sparkling 1921 operetta Dédé at the Grand-Théâtre de Tours during the 1950–1951 season. Directed by Paul Mestre with choreography by André Michaud and musical direction by Marcel Papaïx, the production captures the lively, vaudeville-infused spirit of the Roaring Twenties. Set entirely in a fashionable Paris shoe shop, the piece plays with mistaken identities, flirtations, and a touch of social satire, including a cheeky strike scene that was novel for the operetta stage. The staging makes full use of the bustling shop floor and the double lives of its salesgirls, who moonlight as Casino de Paris dancers, giving frequent opportunities for dance and ensemble numbers. The Orchestre and Choeurs of the Grand Théâtre de Tours provided the musical forces for this post-war Tours presentation.
