Michigan Opera Theatre revived David DiChiera’s Cyrano in May 2017 as the capstone of its spring opera season, coinciding with the founder-composer’s farewell season. Sung in French with English surtitles, the production honored DiChiera’s legacy with a full staging led by director and librettist Bernard Uzan. The scenic and costume designs by John Pascoe were realized with sets built by Ravenswood Studio and costumes from the MOT Costume Shop. Steven Mercurio conducted the MOT Orchestra and Suzanne Mallare Acton prepared the MOT Chorus. Opening night on May 13, 2017, was dedicated to trustees Lee and Floy Barthel. The physical production originated as a co-production with Florida Grand Opera and the Opera Company of Philadelphia.
