This National Theatre staging presents Sophocles' drama in a Czech translation and retelling by Matyas Havrda and Petr Borkovec. Jan Fric is the stage director. The production is scheduled for premiere performances at The Estates Theatre on 4 and 5 March 2027 and is performed in Czech with English surtitles. The production frames the play as an archetypal tragedy about the rules of men and the laws of humanity. Its central dramatic structure places two ambivalent characters and two opposed principles of responsibility against each other: state authority, public interest, and civic rules on one side, and Antigone's willingness to risk her life for unwritten human laws on the other. The credited creative team includes Ilona Smejkalova in dramaturgy, Dragan Stojcevski in set design, Marek Cpin in costume design, Jakub Kudlac for music, Premysl Janda in lighting design, and Alzbeta Soperova for the English surtitles translation.
