The Theatre School @ North Coast Rep presents Ian Wooldridge’s clever adaptation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm as its next student production. Directed by Benjamin Cole, the staging is part of the ProtoStar Social Issues Series, which explores the perils of Stalinism and totalitarianism. The creative process focuses on deepening student awareness of character portrayal; Assistant Director Steve Smith notes the actors are discovering unique ways to embody their animal characters through distinct voices and movement. The show runs a brisk 70 minutes with no intermission to sustain momentum and audience engagement. Sound Designer Melanie Chen Cole and Lighting Designer Liam Sullivan shape the atmosphere for this razor-edged fairy tale. The production remains faithful to the novel’s plot and intent, preserving both its empathy for the animals and the sharpness of its political message.
