Olav Engelbrektsson is a landmark Norwegian opera by Edvard Hoem and Henning Sommerro. The production is staged outdoors at Steinvikholm Castle, a historic site about 50 km from Trondheim. Managed by the Society for the Preservation of Ancient Norwegian Monuments, the castle provides an authentic setting for the story of Norway’s last Catholic archbishop. The 2015 revival marked a new artistic direction under stage director Svein Sturla Hungnes. This production weaves together music, drama, and dance to illuminate the historical events surrounding Olav Engelbrektsson. The set and costumes are adapted to the unique outdoor conditions among the castle ruins.
