A concertante (semi-staged) performance of Johann Friedrich Reichardt’s 1798 Singspiel Die Geisterinsel, presented at the 2022 Musikfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci under the festival theme Islands. Marketed as Shakespeare’s Tempest as a magic opera, the score alternates between lyrical tenderness and stormy drama, featuring ethereal spirit choruses and comic ensembles. Scenic consultation by Tobias Winter emphasized the semi-staged approach. Musical direction was by Hermann Max with the period-instrument ensemble Das Kleine Konzert and the Rheinische Kantorei. Performed in German at the Schlosstheater of the Neues Palais in Sanssouci, Potsdam.
