Peter Breuer’s full-length ballet explores the life of Carlo Gesualdo, prince, murderer, and radical composer. Conceived by Breuer with a libretto and dramaturgy by Maren Zimmermann, and stage/costumes by Bruno Schwengl, the work visualizes Gesualdo’s inner demons and spiritual torment. Live renditions of his melancholic madrigals are interwoven with new compositions and arrangements by Eduardo Boechat. Renaissance imagery, processional scenes, and personified demons inhabit a blood-red world that contrasts festivity with psychological violence. The result is a hybrid stage language where danced madrigals, dark ritual, and modern musical textures trace the collision of genius and guilt.
