The Split Summer Festival’s Judith is a monodrama in the 71st Splitsko ljeto (2025). It adapts Marko Marulić’s 1501 epic poem Judita, often called the first major work of Croatian literature, originally written in Chakavian Croatian. Performed outdoors beside the Church of St. Jerome on Marjan, the setting complements the text’s historical and spiritual resonance. Directed by Dražen Krešić, with set and costumes by Sanja Jureško, lighting by Ivan Lušičić Liik, movement by Anja Ostojić, dramaturgy and language consultation by Sanja Vulić Vranković, sound design by Tomislav Luetić, and stage management by Sonja Dvornik. Actress Katarina Romac performs the monodrama, joined on stage by cellist Stanislav Kovačić, whose live music underlines the verse and action. A complimentary shuttle connected central Split with the Marjan site during festival performances.
