When he sang his first »St Matthew Passion«, Benedikt Kristjánsson found it difficult to sing the recitative about the death of Judas. The problem: portraying Judas as the traitor, the coward, the villain, and a man who deserved a horrible death. It occurred to Kristjánsson that, based on this central Bachian recitative, another interpretation would also be possible. The subject kept preoccupying him, and sometimes it came his way like fate, including in the form of the book »Judas« by Amos Oz. With this new programme, tenor and artist-in-residence Benedikt Kristjánsson sets music by J.S Bach and the texts of Amos Oz into a new soul painting of Judas.
