The theatre collective Candlelight Dynamite retells the fairy tale The Wild Swans as a blend of radio play and live theatre, with rapid energy, imaginative ideas, and quirky humor. The staging is anarchic and turbulent, whisking the audience straight from the kitchen table into Hans Christian Andersen’s world of fairy tales. The production relies on minimal yet effective means: three performers, a table, an accordion, and a cardboard tube that sounds like a didgeridoo. Homemade masks, wigs, and a diving mask add to the intoxicating chaos and exuberant entertainment. The staging makes strong use of sensory elements such as sudden light changes, colorful lighting, haze, and flashes.
