Since winning the 2016 BBC Young Musician Award, cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason has gained international acclaim across concert stages worldwide. For this production, he makes his debut with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, delivering a performance of Camille Saint-Saëns’s gripping Cello Concerto No. 1. Under the baton of conductor Semyon Bychkov, the romantic centerpiece is juxtaposed with contemporary and classical masterworks. The program opens with the highly anticipated Dutch premiere of John Adams’s thrilling orchestral work, Frenzy. The performance concludes with a true classic of the orchestral repertoire, Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, brought to life through Maurice Ravel’s magical orchestration.
