Charpentier and the magic of French Christmas carols Composed around 1694, this mass sets traditional French Christmas carols to a liturgical structure of great beauty. The Kyrie, Gloria, and other sections of the mass intertwine with familiar tunes, creating a moving dialogue between sacred music and folk songs. Celebration and contemplation Charpentier's In nativitatem Domini canticum and Michel Corrette's Sinfonia III, woven from French and foreign melodies, continue this Christmas tradition with an atmosphere of heavenly joy. Under the direction of Bernard Labadie, La Chapelle de Québec and Les Violons du Roy offer an interpretation that is both intimate and grandiose of these timeless pieces that stir the soul of Christmas. This concert is presented with the support of the Azrieli Foundation and The Flora Ann Birks Foundation.
