About this event

This is the Slovak National Theatre Ballet production of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake in Rudolf Nureyev's choreography. It premiered at the SND on 3 November 2023 and is presented in the Opera and Ballet Hall of the new SND building. The production is a four-act classical ballet. Sets and costumes are by Jordi Roig, lighting design is by Jacopo Pantani, and staging and rehearsal preparation are by Nina Poláková, assisted by Roman Lazík, Jean Christophe Lesage, and Andrea Valabík. Adam Sedlický is responsible for musical preparation and conducting, with Adam Novák and Sandra Haniszewska Kubasik as concertmasters. The production brings together SND Ballet soloists and ensemble members, the SND Opera Orchestra, and students of the Eva Jaczová Dance Conservatory in Bratislava. It contrasts human characters with the enchanted swan world and emphasizes swan dances, large corps scenes, and pas de deux. Its central question is whether love can break the swan curse.
