About this event

Vito Taufer and Vesna Đikanović adapt Edmond Rostand's drama from Ivan Kušan's translation. The production presents Cyrano as a poet, soldier, swordsman and speaker whose verbal virtuosity is as important as his physical skill. It focuses on people who feel uncomfortable in their social position or in their own bodies, and on the relationship between meaning, the present moment and language. The adaptation shortens Rostand's original while preserving its main dramatic moments and mixes verse with prose. Cyrano uses verse for his ballads, while the dialogue is spoken in prose. Contemporary interpretive elements are introduced into Roksana and Cardinal Richelieu, including satirical treatment of feminist and postcolonial discourse. The production features set design by Urša Vidic, costumes by Alan Hranitelj, lighting by Vesna Kolarec, live stage fencing, sculptural work by Ivan Duić, and original music by Damir Martinović Mrle and Ivanka Mazurkijević.
