The Uprising Galore Ball is an event within The School of Self-Defense, a collective festival series built around performances and shared formats. The event connects local and international ballroom scenes and is hosted by Sophie Yukiko and Wallace Ferreira. Ballroom developed in response to exclusion, with Black and Latinx queer communities creating spaces for performance, dance, fashion, chosen family, care and remembrance. Knowledge is passed from body to body, generation to generation and House to House. The 31 October categories focus on protest culture and include Realness, Runway and Performance, exploring visibility, belonging, self-determination, identity and presence. Ballroom is described as both celebration and ritual, carrying its history while collectively shaping its future. The wider project is funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
