This is a recital for baritone and piano by Daniel F. Azar and Nina Violetta Aichner. The production examines the voice type required for Bach's demanding bass repertoire, focusing on the term “Bach Baritone” as a vocal identity between a dark baritone and a high bass. The concept is built around Bach's treatment of the bass voice in sacred music. The repertoire is associated with vocal authority, intimacy, flexibility, virtuosic technique, an easy upper register, and resonant low notes. The program also frames the bass as a possible vox Christi, or voice of Christ, in Passions, Masses, oratorios, and some cantatas.
