31st Annual Día De Muertos Festival – California Center for the Performing Arts, Escondido

About this event

The event is a community-based Día de Muertos festival presented by the California Center for the Arts. Its format combines traditional and contemporary cultural expression through art, music, dance, food, remembrance, family activities, and access to the venue's museum. The visual and participatory elements include community altars honoring loved ones, local and regional artist activations, a Catrina Contest, Día de Muertos crafts, face painting, food trucks and pop-ups, and local retail and artisan vendors. Community altars are first come, first served. The live program is distributed across the event window rather than presented as a single titled concert. DJ Zuni is scheduled from 16:00-19:00; the Ballet Folklórico Dance Festival with Jose Jaimes and Tierra Caliente runs from 16:30-19:30; roving mariachi performances run from 17:00-20:00; the Catrina Contest runs from 19:00-19:30; and Mariachis Las Catrinas perform from 19:30-21:00.
