About this event

This is a concert presentation by the SWR Vokalensemble centered on vocal works about love, desire, attraction, and separation. The ensemble performs under conductor Yuval Weinberg, with Martina Batič and Alexander Lüken credited for musical preparation. The program moves from Messiaen's a cappella cycle for twelve mixed voices to Van Parys's 24-part choral work, a selection from Martinů's Czech madrigals, and Saariaho's work for choir and four soloists. The sequence combines twentieth- and twenty-first-century choral writing with madrigalesque and folk-poetic references. The source materials describe a concert concept rather than a separately credited opera or theatre staging.
