About this event
This is a single contemporary orchestral concert built around four new works, all identified by the presenter as premieres. The program combines acoustic orchestral forces with electronics in W1, W2, and W4; W2 additionally specifies improvising soloists. The credited forces include the SWR Symphonieorchester and SWR Experimentalstudio. The program asks how the daily experience of a shaken world can be grasped through music. Natasha Barrett deconstructs the apparent stability of a collapsing system, while Stefan Prins treats the perceived madness of uncontrollable current developments as an artistic principle. Igor C Silva addresses control and loss of control through interaction and improvisation among conductor, orchestra, and soloists. Hannah Kendall's work draws on verses written in 1949 by Martinican poet Edouard Glissant.
