About this event
The concert places madrigals from several linguistic and stylistic traditions side by side. At its centre are Olivier Messiaen’s Cinq rechants for twelve mixed voices and three cycles by Bohuslav Martinů: Five Czech Madrigals H 321, Four Madrigals H 380 and Czech Madrigals H 278. The three Martinů cycles come from different periods of his life and style: the first is folk-song-like, the second is polyphonic, and the third is characterized by imagination and harmonic freedom. Capella Helvetica also performs old English madrigals on historical wind instruments. Yuval Weinberg provides the artistic direction, with the SWR Vokalensemble and Capella Helvetica participating.
