The production presents Mozart's Così fan tutte, also titled ossia La scuola degli amanti, as a two-act dramma giocoso. The performance is in Italian with German surtitles. The opera deliberately misdirects both its characters and its audience. The staging focuses on questions of belonging and on what makes two people appear to be a suitable couple. Its central device is an arranged exchange of partners, connected with contemporary questions about sexual freedom of choice, apparently unlimited possibilities, declining belief in a single destined encounter, and the desire for enchantment and fulfilled partnership. Nilufar K. Münzing directs the production. Britta Lammers designs the set, Uta Gruber-Ballehr the costumes, Markus Hänsel is dramaturg, and Günter Wallner leads the chorus preparation. The Kärntner Sinfonieorchester and the chorus of Stadttheater Klagenfurt participate as ensembles.
