About this event

Yoldas is a solo concert-performance by Nihan Devecioğlu, created around memories of Turkish women who came to Germany as guest workers. The production focuses on Emine Ulusen, Evgenia Karakolidis and Anayurt Kırımlı, members of the first generation of Germany's Gastarbeiterinnen. Devecioğlu grew up near the BMW factory as the granddaughter of Turkish labourers, and the production connects her childhood memories in 1980s Munich with the largely invisible labour of women whose work shaped the following generation. Women's voices, machine sounds and documentary film material combine in a collage addressing historical memory, self-empowerment and female solidarity. Video artist and camera collaborators Cana Bilir-Meier and Tizian Stromp Zargari contribute the visual layer. Production credits include musical and conceptual collaboration with Alexey Kokhanov, directional assistance by Frank Abt, dramaturgy by Viktorie Knotková, scenography by Ragna Heiny, and sound design and technical guidance by Ada Binaj.
