A new production of Sebastian Schwab’s family opera/Singspiel The Robber Hotzenplotz at Theater Bremen. Directed by Frieda Lange with musical direction by General Music Director Stefan Klingele, the staging features sets and costumes by Hanna Rode, lighting by Joachim Grindel, dramaturgy by Pia Syrbe, and assistant design by Emily Siedler. Performed in German with German surtitles, the work is marked by witty, rhythmically lively music and catchy tunes for audiences of all ages. The libretto by Elena Tzavara, Anne X. Weber, and Susanne Lütje adapts Otfried Preussler’s beloved 1962 children’s book into a sung theatrical form, preserving its humor and sense of adventure. Bremen’s production offers an independent interpretation, distinct from the 2023 world premiere in Stuttgart.
