About this event

This concert is the first numbered Klangbilder concert of the 2026/27 season. It is presented in cooperation with Kunsthalle St. Annen in connection with the exhibition “Dimensions of Freedom. Else Alfelt and Carl-Henning Pedersen.” The thematic focus is on different dimensions of freedom in music. The exhibition presents the Danish artists Else Alfelt and Carl-Henning Pedersen as representatives of European post-war modernism. Both rejected academic traditions at an early stage and joined the avant-garde groups Høst and Helhesten, which opposed Nazi ideology during the German occupation of Denmark and expressed solidarity with art denounced as “degenerate.” In 1948, Alfelt and Pedersen became part of the CoBrA movement, which advocated free and spontaneous art independent of social and academic norms. The concert is conceived as a musical response to these ideas.
