About this event

This is Tokyo Nikikai's new production of Carmen, directed and costumed by Irina Brook. The staging relocates the action to the present day and removes the spoken dialogue and recitatives. Dance is used throughout, and the drama is presented at cinematic speed. The visual team comprises Leslie Travers for set design, Takashi Kitamura for lighting, Martin Buczko for choreography, and Sonoko Takeda as costume associate. Tetsuya Kawahara is chorus master; Miroku is assistant stage director; Risa Ito is assistant choreographer; Kensuke Murata is stage manager and one of the technical directors; and Kumi Odaira is the other technical director. Eugene Tzigane conducts the Sapporo performance, with the Nikikai Chorus Group, HBC Junior Chorus, and Sapporo Symphony Orchestra.
