About this event

This is a newly staged production of Mozart's The Magic Flute, presented in Beijing as a joint production by Opera Hong Kong, State Opera South Australia, Beijing Music Festival, and China National Opera House. The production is directed by Zou Shuang. The artistic approach places the German-language story in an Oriental urban context, framing its fairy-tale and initiatory material through a contemporary city setting rather than a purely historical or abstract staging. Dane Lam, Artistic Director of State Opera South Australia, conducts the live performance, with the London Philharmonic Orchestra providing the orchestral forces. The announced vocal participants are Anthony Gregory, Sofia Troncoso, John Chester, Aigul Khismatullina, and Teddy Tahu Rhodes.
