About this event

The production presents Verdi’s third opera, based on a subject from the Old Testament. The political conflict between the Babylonian and Hebrew sides is connected with conflicts within families and intimate relationships. The characters are not presented as a simple opposition of good and evil: Zaccaria also uses drastic means for political goals, while prejudice on both sides threatens the relationship between Fenena and Ismaele. The creative team is led by conductor Mark Rohde and director Alicia Geugelin, with stage design by Letycia Rossi, costumes by Pia Preuß, lighting by Andreas Rehfeld, video design by Krzysztof Honowski, dramaturgy by Samuel Zinsli, and chorus work by Pawel Serafin.
