Wanderlust is a chamber concert by Ensemble Theodora, a group formed by four musicians who first met as international students at the Royal Academy of Music. The program is presented as a dialogue between national musical traditions and marks the ensemble's London Festival of Baroque Music debut. The artistic subject is the influence of Louis XIV's France on German musical taste. The program moves between the theatrical music of Jean-Baptiste Lully and keyboard and sacred traditions associated with the Holy Roman Empire around the turn of the 18th century. The repertoire is drawn from rarely heard works held in the German court libraries of Kassel and Schwerin. The performance is staged in the round and uses period instruments, framing the program around the relationship between Versailles-style French musical culture and German court practice.
