About this event
The Curious Bards present a concert devoted to Henry Purcell's theatre and popular music rather than a staged opera. The programme combines theatre music with hornpipes, jigs, and traditional Scottish and Irish tunes, framing Purcell's work through its relationship with dance and song. The performance is presented in the round, placing the audience close to the musicians and making the musical material the central production element. The five-musician ensemble is joined by guest mezzo-soprano Ilektra Platiopoulou.
