Orbit 2026: Agitato – Sydney Dance Company, Dawes Point

About this event

Agitato is a contemporary dance work by Jo Lloyd presented within the 2026 ORBIT touring program. ORBIT brings together four independent dance works, but this record is limited to Agitato and its four-performance Sydney presentation. The work takes Fanny Mendelssohn's 1823 composition Allegro molto agitato in D Minor as its point of departure. It uses a corporeal response to the music, treating the composition's formal structure, fracture, restlessness, and storm-like energy as material for movement. Movement structures are assembled and disassembled in a single breath; musical notes become choreographic instructions; and the work frames the encounter as a contemporary conversation between women across centuries. Design credits are Andrew Treloar for costume, Shiv Geaney for lighting, and Anny Mokotow for dramaturgy. The 2026 dancer credit lists Rebecca Jensen, Jo Lloyd, Louie Wisby, and Thomas Woodman.
