Domkonzert: verdi requiem – Trier Cathedral, Altstadt

About this event

This is a concert presentation of Verdi's Messa da Requiem, not a staged opera. It is presented as the closing concert of the 2026 Mosel Musik Festival in Trier Cathedral, with Réka Kristóf, Julia Rutigliano, Sung Min Song, and Levente Páll as the four solo voices, the Trierer Domchor and Kathedraljugendchor Trier, and the Philharmonisches Orchester der Stadt Trier under Domkapellmeister Thomas Kiefer. The cathedral setting is part of the concert's identity. Verdi's Requiem was composed for the concert hall rather than as an ordinary church mass, and presents fear of death, hope for salvation, hellfire, and world-weariness with the tone and expression of opera. The Hohe Domkirche St. Peter, described as a more than 1,700-year-old cathedral and UNESCO World Heritage site, provides the acoustic and spatial setting for the large choral-orchestral forces.
