In his Romantic opera, Richard Wagner interweaves history and mythology in a powerful way. For the Wagner devotee Thomas Mann, the music of Lohengrin was "perhaps the most wonderful thing he ever wrote." Director Erik Raskopf, who has already staged The Cunning Little Vixen with striking imagery, turns to the mythic legend and probes the deeper, unresolved questions it raises.
