Disco King – Xingzai Cultural Center, Shanghai

About this event

Disco King is listed as a Commissioned Works project and described as a comprehensive live-music production that combines a concert with musical theater. It is structured in chapters around original songs by Ricky (Wang Heyong), connecting personal memory, physical performance, and contemporary stage imagery. The production combines live music, actors, dancers, lighting, VJ imagery, AI-generated visuals, and lightweight scenic elements. These elements transform the songs into interactive stage episodes in which real bodies and virtual images meet and collide. The artistic premise is to explore a new route for original Chinese pop music to enter the theater, creating a live language that combines music, performance, and digital technology with a youthful, contemporary cultural identity. No director, designer, cast, or other production credit is named.
