About this event
This event presents the Mariinsky Theatre's new production of Giuseppe Verdi's Aida, conducted by Valery Gergiev. The Shanghai engagement is identified as the production's Asian premiere. Giancarlo del Monaco is the stage director. The production combines grand Romantic opera with intimate psychological drama, using symbolic stage imagery and fluid transitions rather than a purely literal historical treatment. Set in ancient Egypt, it explores love, loyalty, conflict, fate, and war. The production premiered in 2025 and is performed in Italian with synchronized Russian and English supertitles.
