About this event

The production is based on historical accounts of Fan Zhongyan's exile in Yuezhou. Its dramatic action follows his efforts to reform bureaucracy, open the granaries to relieve the people, and outwit powerful treacherous officials. The source frames the central conflict through integrity against corruption, loyalty against betrayal, and ideals against reality. The staging uses the moon and spring as central images. It combines Yue opera with the local Shaoxing art form Lianhualao, while moving screens and changing light expand the visual and spatial vocabulary of the performance. The production presents the historical subject through a poetic narrative focused on Fan's moral conviction and readiness to plead the people's cause. It treats traditional Chinese opera through contemporary artistic expression and connects the historical material with human warmth and present-day resonance.
