Dorian

About this event

Dorian is a staged music-theatre work and the Asian premiere of Robert Wilson's production. It follows Wilson's Theatre of Images, combining dramatic text, live music, visual art and spatial design rather than presenting the literary source as a conventional play. The work brings together Oscar Wilde's Dorian Gray, Francis Bacon and Wilde himself to explore art, beauty, desire, identity and morality. Darryl Pinckney's text and Wilson's adaptation interweave these strands. The Shanghai presentation is a 90-minute German-language solo theatre performance by Christian Friedel, with English and Chinese subtitles. Robert Wilson is credited with direction, stage design and lighting; music is credited to Christian Friedel and Woods of Birnam. Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus is the producing house, with National Kaunas Drama Theater and Staatsschauspiel Dresden as co-production partners.
