Sea of Silence is a theater production created by Uruguayan artist Tamara Cubas. It is built from international research into the migratory journeys of women from different continents. The production uses a stage covered in salt as its central scenic image. The performance combines personal testimony with songs, dances, rituals and texts. Its artistic focus is on women who travel across deserts and seas while seeking to transform their lives, with emphasis on resilience, survival and resistance to patriarchal oppression. Seven women from different continents form the onstage community. Their material crosses languages, rites, songs and dances, using a collective ritual structure rather than a conventional plot-driven theatrical form.
