The Festival Internacional Cervantino presents El canto de Edipo as an Italian theatre production. Its starting point is an age of ruins: what remains are tragedy, silent words, and the remnants of the polis, understood as a society of strangers. On these ruins, the legend of Oedipus is rewritten for a contemporary audience. Alessandro Serra is credited as author and director. The production uses the text as a path toward lost collective knowledge and seeks to recover the power of myth. Its stage language is Grecanic, described as a living remnant of Greek still resonating in a corner of the ancient Magna Graecia. The visual action takes place in Thebes reduced to ashes, arid, sterile, and decaying. The production engages with the remains of tragedy, the polis, ritual, myth, and the figure of the hero. The Mexican event listing warns of partial nudity and strobe lighting.
