About this event

En Addicto is a solo documentary theatre production built from an artist's extended contact with people living with addiction. Thomas Quillardet is alone on stage and works from stories of patients he met during an artistic residency in a hospital in the Paris region. The production uses a polyphony of voices rather than a conventional cast of separately embodied characters, incorporating life stories, confidences, silences, consultations, support-group meetings, hospital staff, and health professionals. Its documentary approach examines the hospital institution, addiction, and its treatments, with detoxification as a central thread. The work also addresses care, fragility, the daily exhaustion of sustaining oneself, and the difficulty of being human.
