This is a new revival of the Guan-school classic Zhan Hongzhou, presented by Heilongjiang Peking Opera Theatre seven years after the company's previous festival appearance. The production centers on Mu Guiying taking command to relieve the siege of Hongzhou. Its stated dramatic focus combines devotion to family and country with theatrical spectacle. The performance is identified with the Guan-school's daomadan, or warrior-maiden, role. Its concept balances civil and martial performance rather than treating the work as a purely combat-centered display. Guan-school artists Xing Meizhu and Jia Xilin serve as artistic advisors, while Zhang Huan takes the leading role and is identified as a Plum Blossom Award winner and third-generation inheritor of the Guan school. The staging uses traditional Peking Opera performance techniques, including kaoqi da chushou, the return of weapons while wearing armour flags, and tangma, stylised horsemanship. These techniques are combined with singing, speech, acting, and combat.
