The Moonlit Spring is a new Yue Opera production based on historical accounts of Fan Zhongyan's exile in Yuezhou. The drama presents Fan as an official confronting the practical and ethical consequences of governance away from the imperial center. Its production premise includes his attempts to reform local administration, open granaries to provide relief, and outmaneuver officials acting against the public interest. The staging is rooted in Yue Opera while incorporating Shaoxing Lianhualao, with movable screens and changing light used as central visual devices. The production frames Fan's actions through the conflict between integrity and corruption, loyalty and betrayal, and ideals and political reality.
