About this event

The production is a stage adaptation of Rainer Werner Fassbinder's film of the same title. Directed by Thomas Ostermeier, it transfers cinematic language to the stage through playful performance, a movie-like theatrical space, and a strongly rhythmic narrative. Moving between comedy and tragedy, it uses the life of an ordinary woman to examine desire, trauma, and the social transformation of West Germany's post-war economic recovery. The production is presented by Schaubühne Berlin. Set design is by Nina Wetzel, costume design by Ulrike Gutbrod, video design by Sebastian Dupouey, music by Nils Ostendorf, and dramaturgy by Juliane Lochte. Ursina Lardi plays Maria Braun, while four male actors collectively perform more than 20 roles.
