Drama Hamlet By Beijing People's Art Theatre – Majestic Theatre, Shanghai

About this event

Beijing People's Art Theatre presents a new main-stage production of Hamlet, co-directed by Feng Yuanzheng and Yang Jiayin and performed by Zheng Yunlong, Lu Lu, Du Zijun, Zeng Yongti, and Zhao Zhengtian. The production offers a fresh interpretation of Shakespeare's classic, retaining the poetic expression of Zhu Shenghao's classic Chinese translation while breaking away from linear storytelling. It explores the theme of choice through interwoven layers of time and space and a stream-of-consciousness stage language that exposes the characters' inner struggles as they face fateful decisions. An industrial-style set, contemporary costumes, fencing, dance, singing, and instrumental performance form part of the staging. Duration, performance language, subtitles, designers, and livestream information are not specified.
