This is a symphonic concert by the Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Miguel Harth-Bedoya. The program opens with Amy Beach's Alla siciliana - Allegro vivace from her Symphony in E Minor, Op. 32, "Gaelic," continues with Ethel Smyth's On the Cliffs of Cornwall, the Prelude to Act 2 of The Wreckers, and concludes with Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 1, "Titan." The concert frames Mahler's view that a symphony should embrace the world and presents sounds of nature as a narrative of life, alongside orchestral works by Beach and Smyth.
