A "charmed Voice": Music For Laura Conti At The Ospedaletto – Scuola Grande dei Carmini, Venice

This is a concert centered on Laura Conti, identified in the event material as a figlia di coro associated with Venice's Ospedaletto. The historical point of departure is Charles Burney's 1770 visit to the Ospedaletto, when he was captivated by Conti's voice. Musicologist Marica Tacconi researched archival records to reconstruct Laura Conti's life, and the concert presents music written for her on the basis of that research. The program combines sacred and secular material by Tommaso Traetta, Pasquale Anfossi and Antonio Sacchini, with some material transcribed from original manuscripts.
