About this event
This is a symphonic concert built around a geographic and cultural journey from east to west, presented in connection with the Day of German Unity. The event is described as a musical journey through landscapes from east to west rather than as a staged theatre production. The programme begins with Bedřich Smetana's The Moldau, a musical representation of the composer's Czech homeland, and then moves toward the Elbe through Fabian Otten's By the Beautiful Gray Elbe. Otten's work humorously alludes to Johann Strauss's Blue Danube and to the former border river. Hans Werner Henze's La selva incantata provides the transition through the enchanted forest before the programme arrives at Robert Schumann's Rhenish Symphony. Musical direction is by Romely Pfund, with the Mecklenburg State Orchestra as ensemble.
