A symphonic concert program opens Theater Osnabrück’s 26/27 season of symphony concerts. The four-part program moves from Beethoven’s Fidelio Overture to a brand-new Piano Concerto by Matias Vestergård Hansen (world premiere), then to Lukas Foss’s Elegy for Anne Frank, and finally to Arthur Honegger’s Symphony No. 3. The through-line is a search for humanity and expressive force in times of existential challenge. The Hansen concerto is a joint commission with two Danish orchestras and the Osnabrück Symphony Orchestra, featuring Danish pianist Gustav Piekut. Presented in the context of musica pro pace 2026 and the Osnabrücker Friedensgespräche, the program frames Foss’s work as a bridge between memory and the present, pain and dignity, and as a conceptual continuation of Anno Schreier’s world-premiere music-theatre work Peter van Pels. Honegger’s Third Symphony, written after the Second World War, closes with a call for peace and humanity.
