About this event

A classical chamber concert for five wind players of the Valerius Ensemble, this program places baroque repertoire and its echoes in fresh arrangements for wind quintet. Rameau’s short harpsichord pieces from Pièces de clavecin open the evening in new colors via arrangements by Ryohei Nakagawa. The Bach/Vivaldi connection is explored through Bach’s Organ Concerto BWV 593—presented here in a wind version arranged by Mordechai Rechtman—which traces its roots to Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Violins RV 522. The program moves on to Charles Koechlin’s 1924 Trio for flute, clarinet and bassoon, and closes with a wind-quintet suite drawn from Stravinsky’s Pulcinella in an arrangement by Ted Shapiro. As a concert presentation, no staging credits (director, set, costumes, lighting) are listed.
