Samson Et Dalila – Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater, Schwerin

About this event

Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater presents a semi-staged production of Camille Saint-Saëns’s Samson et Dalila (libretto by Ferdinand Lemaire). The staging positions the piece between the traditions of French Grand Opera and opéra lyrique, while drawing on Wagnerian music drama and the tableau-like breadth of the oratorio. Saint-Saëns’s score unfolds in shimmering strings, brilliant brass, and carefully used percussion to create a sensual, at times exotic sound world. Performed in French with German surtitles. Premiere: 17 October 2026, Theaterzelt am Kuechengarten, Schwerin. Musical direction: Kiril Stankow; staging: Thomas Schmidt-Ehrenberg; design: Silke von Patay; video: Ben Artmann.
